Marketplace Terms for Hosts
These terms explain how Away works for the people and places that offer experiences through it — the hosts. They cover what Away does, what it charges, and how and when hosts are paid. They are written plainly and are meant to be read.
1. What Away is
Away is a platform that connects people to restorative experiences — from short guided sessions to multi-night stays — and, through the Away device and app, measures the effect those experiences have on a person's presence, a wellness measure of how present, steady, and restored someone is.
For hosts, Away is a place to be discovered by people who arrive intending to be present, to run bookings and payments through one set of rails, and over time to show the measured effect their experience has.
Away is not the provider of the experience. The host is. Away provides the platform that connects the two and processes the booking. Responsibility for delivering the experience safely and as described sits with the host.
2. Fees
Away's fee is transparent and itemised. There are no hidden commissions and no charge added to the guest. The price a guest sees is the price a guest pays.
On each booking, two fees are deducted from the host's payout:
- Away platform fee — 5%of the booking value. This is Away's fee for the platform: discovery, the booking system, and the presence measurement layer.
- Merchant (card processing) fee — 2%of the booking value. This is the cost of processing the payment, paid straight to Away's payments partner. Away does not mark it up.
Together that is 7% of the booking value, shown as two separate line items on every payout statement. The host keeps 93%.
Large booking platforms typically charge hosts 15–20% and do not itemise what the fee is for. Away charges 5% plus the plain cost of card processing, shown in full. Away does not make its money by taxing a host's work.
Away does not add a booking fee, service fee, or any charge to the guest at checkout. The displayed price is the charged price.
3. Payouts
When a guest books and pays, the payment is processed by Away's payments partner. The host's share — the booking value less the 5% platform fee and the 2% merchant fee — is paid out to the host's nominated account.
Each payout statement itemises the booking value, the 5% platform fee, the 2% merchant fee, and the net amount paid — the same two-line breakdown shown at signup.
Payouts are made to the bank account the host provides during onboarding.
4. Listings and content
Hosts are responsible for the accuracy of their listings — the description, images, price, availability, and what the experience actually involves. Listings should represent the experience honestly.
Away may review, edit for consistency, or decline to publish a listing, and may remove a listing that is inaccurate, unsafe, or inconsistent with the nature of the platform.
The host retains ownership of the content they provide, and grants Away permission to display and promote it in connection with the platform.
Away frames presence as a wellness measure, not a clinical or medical one. Listings must not make medical, therapeutic, or health-treatment claims.
5. Measured outcomes
Where guests use the Away device, Away can measure the effect of an experience on presence and, over time, show a host a verified movement figure — the average measured change across guests who consented to share it.
Measured outcomes are only ever shown once there is enough data to be meaningful, and are based only on guests who have consented to their measurement being used.
A host does not control this figure and cannot edit it. It reflects real measured data.
6. Cancellations and refunds
Each experience carries a cancellation policy set by the host and shown to the guest before booking. Refunds are handled according to that policy and applicable law.
7. Host responsibilities
By listing on Away, a host confirms that they:
- Have the right to offer the experience or place, and the appropriate insurance, licences, and permissions to do so.
- Will deliver the experience safely and substantially as described.
- Will keep availability and pricing accurate.
- Will treat guests with care and respect the intent they arrive with.
8. Away's role and limits
Away provides the platform and processes payments. Away does not deliver the experiences and is not a party to the arrangement between host and guest beyond connecting them and handling the booking. Away's responsibility is limited accordingly, as set out in full in the Host Agreement.
9. Changes to these terms
Away may update these terms as the platform develops. Where a change materially affects fees or payouts, hosts will be notified before it takes effect.
These terms are a plain-English summary for hosts. The full, binding terms are set out in the Away Host Agreement, which a host accepts on joining. Where the two differ, the Host Agreement governs.
