Merriwa Station

Upper Hunter Valley, NSW

A shearer's cottage on a 6,000-acre working sheep station.

HostHugh and Cath Morrow
Duration3–14 nights
Capacity1–2 guests

Merriwa Station is a working sheep property in the upper Hunter Valley. The cottage — a restored shearer's quarters, separate from the main homestead — sits at the edge of a dry creek bed with views across the paddocks to the ranges. It's functional, warm and spare: a bed, a kitchen, a verandah. The Morrows are nearby if you need anything; otherwise they leave you entirely alone. The landscape is open in a way that Australian inland country can be — vast enough to feel genuinely removed from anything else.
